Suspected political thugs have reportedly attacked supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a campaign rally in Delta State, leaving some participants injured and a vehicle damaged.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, November 7, 2026, while party supporters were gathered at the rally venue.
A video circulating on social media captured scenes of confusion as suspected attackers disrupted the gathering, damaged a vehicle parked close to the venue and forced attendees to flee for safety.
Some supporters reportedly sustained injuries during the attack, while others allegedly lost their mobile phones and personal belongings in the ensuing confusion.
In the viral footage, an unidentified individual expressed disappointment over the incident, insisting that the NDC supporters had gathered peacefully and had no intention of engaging in violence.
“We came here to campaign in peace. We did not come to fight anybody. What happened today is not good for democracy,” the individual said.
The latest incident comes just days after the convoy of the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was reportedly attacked by suspected political thugs in Calabar, Cross River State.
Obi’s media aide, Ester Umoh, had raised the alarm in a social media post on Wednesday, November 4, alleging that some individuals were attempting to attack the former Anambra State governor’s convoy.
The incident occurred shortly after Obi arrived in Calabar alongside his wife, Margaret, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for a town hall meeting.
The reported attacks have renewed concerns about the safety of political supporters and the need to protect democratic activities from violence and intimidation.
Political parties and their supporters are entitled to campaign and express their political positions peacefully without fear of attacks or harassment.
