Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has strongly refuted circulating reports suggesting he plans to abandon the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), allegedly alongside five fellow governors.
Through his spokesman Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum categorically denied the allegations that have been spreading across various online platforms, characterizing them as deliberate misinformation intended to create political discord.

“We are aware of false and malicious social media reports making rounds in certain circles, claiming that I intend to abandon the All Progressives Congress for the African Democratic Congress, supposedly with five other state governors,” the official statement declared.
The governor attributed these claims to detractors whom he accused of lacking meaningful contributions to Borno State’s advancement or Nigeria’s overall development.

“These allegations are completely unfounded and exist purely in the minds of those behind them,” Zulum emphasized, describing the reports as “typical cheap, politically-driven conjecture meant purely as a distraction.”
The governor reinforced his steadfast allegiance to the ruling APC while reaffirming his focus on Borno State’s transformation.
“My commitment to the APC stands unshaken, and my focus remains entirely on the wellbeing and advancement of Borno State. We have no interest in petty politics; we are fully occupied with the important work of reconstructing and developing our beloved state,” he declared.

Zulum also called on media organizations and citizens to seek information from reliable sources rather than succumbing to the schemes of political opponents.
These denials come amid ongoing discussions about an opposition alliance targeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s potential unseating in the 2027 elections, with several prominent political figures recently embracing the ADC as their coalition vehicle.

Notable figures who have joined this movement include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential nominee Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who now serves as the party’s interim national secretary.
The coalition also features former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Senate President David Mark, who has been named interim national chairman, among other prominent politicians.
