London, United Kingdom – In a solemn and symbolic condolence visit, a high-powered Federal Government delegation led by Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, GCON, met with Mamman Daura, the elder statesman and head of the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s family, in London on Monday, July 14, 2025.

The delegation, which also included Former Head of State AbdulSalam Abubakar GCFR, Governor Zulum of Borno State,Acting Nigerian High Commissioner Cyprian Heen from Rivers State, Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila,and senior Nigerian officials, visited the Buhari family’s residence in London to formally offer condolences on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Government, and the Nigerian people.

A Message of National Grief and Solidarity

Speaking during the visit, Vice President Shettima conveyed President Tinubu’s deepest sympathy and shared personal words of reflection on Buhari’s legacy.

We are here not only as representatives of government, but as brothers, sons, and fellow Nigerians who deeply mourn the passing of a giant among men. President Buhari was a leader whose life reflected duty, discipline, and devotion. His loss is not just for Daura or Katsina, but for all of Nigeria.”

Nigeria’s High Commissioner, Amb. Sarafa Ishola, praised the prompt response of the Tinubu-led administration, noting that arrangements for the repatriation of the late President’s body were underway, in full coordination with the Buhari family and the Federal Government.

Repatriation Plans and State Funeral in Daura

The meeting comes ahead of the expected repatriation of Buhari’s body to Nigeria on Tuesday, July 15, for burial in accordance with Islamic rites and Northern Nigerian customs. The funeral prayer is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Daura, following the arrival of the remains accompanied by Vice President Shettima, Aisha Buhari & children at 12 noon in Katsina.

The Federal Government has mobilized a full state burial plan, with military honours, security deployments, and official delegations from across Africa and beyond. President Tinubu is expected to lead the final farewell.
