Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, following his death on Sunday at age 82.
The Janaza (Islamic funeral prayer) for the late Nigerian leader was conducted at 4:56 p.m. on Tuesday.His body was interred by Islamic rites at his family residence.
Buhari’s remains had earlier arrived in Katsina from London aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior government officials.
The body was received under tight security arrangements, with military personnel and security operatives positioned along major routes to Daura.
President Bola Tinubu, who arrived in Katsina on Tuesday afternoon, attended the funeral alongside Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, and other high-ranking officials.
Notable attendees included former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osinbajo, as well as several former governors and ministers who gathered to pay their final respects to the late statesman.
