The ancient city of Epe was plunged into mourning on Saturday, August 30, following the burial of one of its most prominent figures, Alhaja Amope Olarenwaju, popularly known as Iya Amodu.
Alhaja Amope, who died on Friday after a brief illness, was a highly respected matriarch in the community. Her passing has drawn an outpouring of condolences from dignitaries, religious leaders, and well-wishers within and beyond Epe Division.
The Janazah prayer was led by Sheikh Sadala Abiola Aliru, President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas in Epe Division, alongside other notable Islamic scholars. Special supplications were offered for the repose of her soul, divine strength for her family, and continued peace and progress for the entire Epe community.
The solemn ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Accountant General of Lagos State, Mr. Abiodun Muritala; the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Barr. Tokunbo Wahab; member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Epe Constituency I, Hon. Abiodun Tobun; House of Representatives member, Hon. Wale Raji; Prof. Nosirudeen Onibon; Prof. M.A. Shittu; Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Sesan Olowa; among several other distinguished personalities from within and outside the division.
Her legacy as a respected community pillar was reflected in the large turnout and the depth of tributes shared in her honour.

We join the Royal Household, the Odo Noforija community, and all relations and friends in mourning the loss of this noble woman — a devout Muslim, a devoted mother, sister, and aunt, and a true pillar of support to His Majesty. Her life was marked by faith, humility, and service, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be remembered with deep affection.
We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT), in His infinite mercy, forgives her shortcomings and admits her to Al-Jannat al-Firdaus, the highest station in Paradise. May He grant comfort and strength to the Royal Family and all who mourn her, and may her memory continue to inspire goodness in generations to come.
