Aggrieved retired police officers, accompanied by their wives and children, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, marched to the National Assembly in Abuja to demand their removal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The protesters called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the bill seeking to exempt police personnel from the pension scheme into law.
In a video circulating on social media, the demonstrators were heard chanting, “President Tinubu, sign our bill,” as they urged the President to respond to their demands.
Some of the children who accompanied their parents were also seen carrying placards during the demonstration.

The protest comes a day after retired military personnel barricaded the entrance to the Military Pensions Board office in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, over their dissatisfaction with the formula used to adjust their pensions.
During the earlier demonstration, the military retirees blocked access to the premises with canopies and chairs, while armed soldiers prevented them from entering the office.
The latest protest by retired police officers and their families adds to growing demonstrations by former security personnel seeking changes to their pension arrangements and improved retirement welfare.
The police retirees are urging President Tinubu to assent to the proposed legislation, which they believe would address their concerns about the existing contributory pension system.
