The ancient city of Odo-Noforija Kingdom , in Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Epe, witnessed a gathering of high-profile individuals on Friday, August 31st, as HRM Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Olaogun Ogunlaja (JP), the Aladeshonyin and Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija Kingdom , his children, and the entire royal family, organized a befitting burial ceremony for the late matriarch of the royal family , Princess Susana Ayodele Shafau (née Ogunlaja), the Iya-Oba of Odo-Noforija.
The burial activities commenced with a farewell procession, during which the remains of the late princess were taken to all the homes she had close ties with during her lifetime. This was followed in the evening by a Christian Wake-Keep , held at the First African Church Mission, Diocese of Ijebu-Ibadan, Epe District Council, St. David Parish, Odo-Noforija. The service featured special renditions, prayers, a spiritually uplifting sermon, and heartfelt testimonies from her children, relatives, and community members, all reflecting on her impactful life and enduring legacy.
On Thursday, August 29th, the Funeral Service was held at the same church, officiated by The Most Revd. S.O.N. Daniel, Arch-Bishop of the Arch Diocese of the West, alongside other ministers of God. They offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Princess Susana’s soul in the heavenly kingdom.
Following the service, the interment took place at her residence beside the Aladeshonyin Palace , Odo-Noforija, where the dust-to-dust rite and other burial traditions were observed.
After the interment, dignitaries and well-wishers were hosted at the Oba Ogunlaja’s Hall , where they paid glowing tributes to the late Iya-Oba. Many spoke about her virtues, her role in strengthening the royal family, and her positive contributions to the community. They prayed for her peaceful rest and for the royal family to find strength in her enduring legacy..
