Lagos, Nigeria – Tragedy struck again in Lagos on Wednesday evening when a two-storey building collapsed at No. 4 Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of the state.
The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., left one man trapped beneath the rubble while five other occupants were successfully rescued.
Emergency responders, including operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), swiftly mobilised to the scene to coordinate rescue efforts. Dramatic footage shared on social media showed teams working frantically to clear debris.
The trapped victim, identified as a 44-year-old resident of Olabode Street in Alimosho, sustained multiple fractures and bruises. He was eventually pulled out of the wreckage and rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the man was in stable condition. “The five rescued persons were taken to a private hospital within the community. He arrived at LASUTH stable and was immediately placed on further treatment,” Omotoso stated.
The Lagos State Government has since ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and prevent future occurrences.
This incident adds to a string of building collapses in Lagos, renewing public concerns about structural integrity and enforcement of safety regulations in the state’s fast-growing urban areas.
