Troops of Sector 6 under Operation Enduring Peace have arrested a suspected kidnap gang member believed to be involved in a series of abductions and violent attacks along the Jos-Makurdi highway in Plateau State.
The suspect was apprehended during a targeted operation carried out around 5:00 p.m. on July 16 by troops stationed at the Sector’s Standing Operating Base in Bangai Village, Riyom Local Government Area.
The operation formed part of ongoing security efforts aimed at tackling criminal activities and improving safety for commuters using the busy Jos-Makurdi road.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is allegedly a member of an armed criminal group accused of kidnapping motorists and carrying out violent attacks on residents along the highway.
The suspect is currently being held in military custody as investigations continue.
Security sources said the suspect is cooperating with investigators by providing valuable information that could help security agencies dismantle the criminal network and track down other members of the gang.
