Breaking: Shettima Back in Nigeria After Nine-Day US, Germany Trip

Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Abuja on Thursday, October 2, 2025, after a nine-day trip to the United States and Germany. He landed at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, where senior government officials welcomed him.

Shettima departed Nigeria on September 21 to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the week-long event, he delivered Nigeria’s national statement, advocating for extensive UN reforms, and promoted Africa’s control over its $700 billion mineral resources. He also secured partnerships with the United Kingdom, the Gates Foundation, and other global stakeholders.

In a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Shettima earned praise for Nigeria’s push for a permanent UN Security Council seat. He further highlighted Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition potential to international investors.

Before heading to Germany, the Vice President engaged the Nigerian diaspora, assuring them of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to inclusive policies and programs.
