Senator Iyiola Omisore, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, has announced his candidacy for the 2026 Osun State governorship election. The former deputy governor shared his decision via a post on his X handle, revealing that he will formally declare his intention on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo, at 10 a.m.
Themed “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” Omisore’s campaign aims to rebuild hope, enhance governance, and secure a brighter future for Osun State residents. “This is a collective mission,” he stated, inviting citizens to join his “Osun Rescue Mission 2026.”
Omisore, who served as Osun’s deputy governor from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy, represented Osun East in the Senate from 2003 to 2011, where he chaired the Appropriations Committee.
He previously ran for governor in 2014 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), losing to Rauf Aregbesola, and in 2018 under the Social Democratic Party before joining the APC in 2021. He became the APC National Secretary in 2022.
As a seasoned politician, Omisore is poised to be a leading contender for the APC’s governorship ticket in 2026.
