Breaking: Police Await Court Order on Tinted-Glass Permit Enforcement Suspension

The Nigeria Police Force has stated it has not yet received the Federal High Court’s order halting the enforcement of tinted-glass permits. Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this clarification on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in response to reports about the court’s ruling.

According to PUNCH Online, the Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025 (John Aikpokpo-Martins v. Inspector-General of Police & Nigeria Police Force) issued an order on Friday, directing the police to suspend enforcement of tinted-glass permits until the case is resolved. The court instructed the police to maintain the status quo, prohibiting actions against motorists for using tinted glass.

Hundeyin, via his X account, noted that the police had not been formally served with the court order. He emphasized the need for transparency, pointing out that some reports, including one by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, highlighted only part of the ruling while omitting others, such as point eight of the order.

The tinted-glass permit scheme, reintroduced in April 2023 under the Police Specialised Services Automation Project, had been suspended in 2022. The ongoing legal battle has drawn attention to the regulation’s enforcement and its impact on motorists.
