Tinubu Shares Personal Faith Story, Advocates Religious Freedom at Funeral

President Bola Tinubu has opened up about his Islamic heritage while underscoring the importance of love and religious freedom in Nigeria. Speaking at the funeral of Hajia Jummai Mutawalli, wife of the Emir of Zazzau, in Zaria, Kaduna State, Tinubu revealed that he inherited Islam but has never pressured his wife, Oluremi, to convert.

“I inherited Islam, but I have never convinced or converted my wife,” Tinubu stated, highlighting his commitment to mutual respect in interfaith marriages. He urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance, noting that faith should foster unity rather than division. The president praised the late Hajia Mutawalli for her exemplary life and contributions to community service, calling her a symbol of grace and dedication.

The event drew dignitaries from across the country, serving as a platform for Tinubu to reaffirm the federal government’s dedication to protecting religious rights and promoting peaceful coexistence amid Nigeria’s diverse society.
