Kaduna School Abandoned, Leaving Students Without Education, Says Civic Group

The civic accountability platform MonITNG has raised concerns over the dire condition of Government Secondary School (GSS) Cikaji in Sabongari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, calling it a stark example of government neglect. In a statement addressed to Governor Uba Sani, the group reported that the school, once a vital educational hub, has been abandoned for over two years, depriving numerous children of education.

MonITNG described the school’s state as alarming, with dilapidated classrooms, crumbling buildings, and an unsafe learning environment. A particularly dangerous open soakaway pit behind the school poses a severe risk to students and visitors. The group noted that over 100 students have stopped attending due to the facility’s unusable condition.

Despite Kaduna State receiving substantial education funding from federal allocations and development partners, MonITNG criticized the lack of visible impact, pointing to collapsing classrooms, leaking roofs, and inadequate infrastructure across the state. The group accused the current administration of prioritizing other areas over education, leaving many young people without quality schooling.

MonITNG urged Governor Sani to act swiftly to renovate decaying schools, ensure safe learning environments, and guarantee access to quality education for Kaduna’s children, emphasizing that their future depends on immediate action.
