The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the body of a Canadian national, Mr. Dwight Sullivan, has been released to a relative for cremation following his death in a hotel on Victoria Island.
According to reports, Sullivan was found dead in his hotel room on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from officers of the Victoria Island Police Division after a distress call was received.
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said officers arrived at the scene and carried out a preliminary examination.
“Upon arrival, our officers discovered that there were no visible marks of violence on the deceased, suggesting that no foul play was immediately suspected,” Adebisi said.
She explained that the body was moved to a morgue for preservation while investigations began. The command also reached out to the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria, which helped contact the deceased’s family.
“The relative has since taken custody of the corpse for cremation,” Adebisi added.
As of the time of filing this report, police investigations were still ongoing to determine the exact cause of Sullivan’s death.
