Ben Murray-Bruce, a former Bayelsa East senator, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Announcing his defection on X, Murray-Bruce praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic vision, describing him as a leader who understands finance and treats the economy as a “living organism” that requires discipline and deregulation.
He acknowledged the current hardships but expressed optimism about Nigeria’s transition to a free-market economy, which he believes will reward hard work and innovation. Murray-Bruce highlighted Tinubu’s reforms, including improved security under the National Security Adviser, a stabilized economy through Central Bank leadership, and a deregulated fuel supply ending scarcity. He also commended infrastructure developments in roads, ports, airports, and housing as vital for growth.
Stating that his move to the APC is driven by progress, not politics, Murray-Bruce expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership to deliver transformative growth over an eight-year term. His defection follows Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri’s recent switch to the APC, alongside 23 state assembly members, and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah’s similar move.
