Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has returned to the country and resumed official duties after a brief absence. He was seen on Sunday in Abuja attending a government-related business event.
This development comes after reports circulated last week claiming that Edun had taken ill and was flown abroad for medical treatment. The Presidency later clarified that the minister was simply “indisposed,” describing the illness rumors as false and assuring the public that he was in good health.
In a recent video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by presidential aide Sunday Dare, Edun was captured at an art-themed business exhibition organized by a government corporation. The event featured a foreign delegation exploring potential investment opportunities in Nigeria.
The video showed the finance minister mingling with guests, foreign delegates, and senior government officials, a clear indication that he has returned to active service.
Speaking briefly in the clip, Edun explained that he had only taken a short break to recuperate.
“I got a few days off to rest,” he said. “I can’t stay long in the house, so I’m coming to enjoy this beautiful exhibition. I’m happy to see Nigerian artists on display, telling their story to the world.”
Last week’s reports had suggested that Edun’s health had deteriorated and that President Bola Tinubu was considering a replacement. The Presidency swiftly refuted those claims, reaffirming that the minister remained “hale and hearty.”
Mr. Wale Edun was appointed Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on August 16, 2023, and officially sworn into office on August 21, 2023. His public appearance in Abuja puts to rest speculation about his health and reaffirms his continued role in the Tinubu administration.
