The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing power shortages in public hospitals and universities through renewable energy investments.
Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, stated this on Thursday while marking his two years in office. He said the Renewed Hope Solarisation Project under President Bola Tinubu’s administration is deploying two-megawatt solar hybrid systems across public institutions.
Abdullahi noted that the first phase has been completed at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, General Hospital Bangi, the Enugu Research Centre, and the University of Abuja. Several communities in Benue, Kebbi, Kaduna, Ekiti, and Osun States have also benefited, with more projects planned for the second phase.
He added that the ECN has signed multiple MoUs for solar mini-grid projects and continues to drive renewable energy initiatives. Abdullahi also highlighted the launch of the National Energy Policy and National Energy Master Plan to boost coordination and investment in the energy sector.
Additionally, the ECN has established a pilot Green Hydrogen Plant to promote local green energy technology and strengthen Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
