Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has been officially affirmed as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.

The ratification took place in Ado-Ekiti during a special nomination exercise chaired by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, who also leads the APC governorship primary committee. The motion to adopt Oyebanji was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye.
Oyebanji’s candidacy was approved through a voice vote by 885 delegates drawn from 177 wards across the state’s 16 local councils.

In his acceptance speech, the governor thanked party members and President Bola Tinubu for their support, pledging to continue his administration’s development agenda. He urged his supporters to avoid divisive behaviour or character attacks, emphasizing unity within the party.
Oyebanji also extended an olive branch to his former rival, Kayode Ojo, and other aspirants, calling for collective effort to secure APC’s victory in 2026 and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Governor Ododo clarified that the consensus arrangement was a party decision, not an imposition, aimed at ensuring continuity and stability in Ekiti State’s governance.
Oyebanji described the process as a “no victor, no vanquished” moment, reflecting political maturity and commitment to progress within the APC.
