FG Adopts Kaduna’s Household Mapping Model to Tackle Out-of-School Children
The Federal Government has adopted Kaduna State’s household mapping framework as a national strategy to help reduce the number of out-of-school children across Nigeria.
The decision was announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, during a meeting with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in Abuja.
Governor Sani described the development as a major recognition of Kaduna State’s data-driven approach to governance. He said the household mapping system has played a key role in reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state from about 550,000 to fewer than 180,000.
According to him, the framework provides accurate data that allows the government to identify vulnerable children, target interventions more effectively and direct resources to communities where they are needed most.
Sani explained that the initiative has also improved school enrolment and retention by helping the government design programmes that address the specific challenges faced by children and their families.
He said the Federal Government’s decision to adopt the model demonstrates confidence in Kaduna State’s evidence-based approach to policymaking and service delivery in the education sector.
The governor expressed Kaduna’s readiness to work with the Federal Government to implement the framework across the country, noting that its nationwide adoption could significantly improve access to education and further reduce the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education, stressing that reliable data, targeted interventions and strong partnerships remain essential to achieving lasting improvements in the education sector.
