Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has filed a lawsuit against the State House of Assembly, its Speaker, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and others over an alleged plot to impeach him.

In a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Ewhrudjakpo, through his lawyer, Reuben Egwuaba, claimed that members of the House were under pressure to remove him for refusing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), unlike Governor Douye Diri, who recently resigned from the party.
He also alleged that some local government chairmen, including Sagbama LGA Chairperson Alice Tange, were being threatened with dismissal for the same reason.

After hearing an ex-parte motion, Justice Emeka Nwite ordered all defendants — including the Bayelsa House of Assembly, its Speaker, the IGP, the Director General of the SSS, the State Attorney General, the Chief Judge, and the Clerk — to appear in court on November 13 to explain why an interim injunction should not be granted.
Ewhrudjakpo seeks several orders restraining the defendants from initiating or proceeding with any impeachment process against him for staying in the PDP. He also asked the court to bar them from appointing or recognizing any replacement deputy governor, and to prevent the withdrawal of his security protection pending the hearing of the motion.
