Peter Mbah, Yilwatda present as six PDP, LP reps join APC during plenary

Six members of the House of Representatives have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP).

The defectors include five lawmakers from Enugu State — Obetta Chidi (Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South), Anayo Onwuegbu (Aninri/Awgu/Oji River), Dennis Agbo (Igbo-Eze North/Udenu), Martins Oke (Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani), and Nnolim Nnaji (Nkanu East/Nkanu West). Daniel Asama, representing Jos North/Bassa constituency in Plateau State, also joined the APC from the LP.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read their defection letters during Thursday’s plenary session, noting that the lawmakers had made “the right decision” by joining the ruling party.

The defectors attributed their decision to “protracted and irreconcilable crises” within their former parties.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, who recently joined the APC, and the party’s national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, were present at the plenary to witness the development.

Speaking to journalists, Nnolim Nnaji said the move was driven by “courage, clarity, and a shared determination to reposition Enugu State.”

“For too long, our dear Enugu State has remained in opposition, watching from the sidelines while others shaped the destiny of our nation,” he said. “That era is over. We refuse to remain spectators when we can be key players in Nigeria’s progress.”

He added that aligning with the APC would “bring more projects, more jobs, better infrastructure, and greater empowerment” to their constituencies.

The defection marks yet another wave of exits from the PDP in recent weeks.
