Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has unveiled The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, a new category under its prestigious Nigeria Prizes, aimed at inspiring young Nigerians aged 18 to 35 to tell stories that redefine the nation’s image through documentary filmmaking.

Announced at a press conference in Lagos, the prize encourages participants to create short documentaries (no longer than 20 minutes) that celebrate Nigeria’s identity and reshape global perceptions through creativity and visual excellence. The first call for entries opens in February 2026, alongside The Nigeria Prize for Science and The Nigeria Prize for Literature, with a $20,000 cash award for the winner.
Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief that storytelling is vital to nation-building.
> “This prize invites young Nigerians to own their narrative and showcase our brilliance, resilience, and complexity through film,” she said.

The new category will be administered by an advisory board chaired by Professor Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, supported by Emeritus Professor Olu Obafemi and Professor Ahmed Yerima. The judging panel will be led by Dr. Sam Dede, with Adeola Aderonke and George Ugwuja as members.
Technical Advisor and Emmy-winning filmmaker Joel Benson noted that entries would be judged to international standards, ensuring global competitiveness. The prize cycle will conclude in October 2026 with the announcement of the winner at the Grand Award Night sponsored by NLNG.
