The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity is a national crisis, not a religious or ethnic issue, and warned that it threatens the survival of all citizens.

In a statement on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, faulted U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments redesignating Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” and hinting at military action. The ADC said while global concern over human rights is valid, military threats would destabilize Nigeria and undermine its democracy.
The party accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing in its duty to protect citizens, citing reports that nearly 15,000 people have been killed in violent attacks since 2023.
“This crisis is not about religion or ethnicity—it is an existential threat to all Nigerians,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC urged a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s security system, the appointment of ambassadors to key countries, and a foreign policy reset focused on national interest. “Nigeria is not beyond saving,” the statement concluded, “but time is running out.”
