Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says he is not ready to assess President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing repeated distortion of his remarks by the media.

Speaking, Soyinka said he would rather reserve his opinion for now. “Whatever one says is often twisted, and I’m tired of that. When the time is right, I’ll express my views in writing,” he said.
Known for his strong criticism of past Nigerian leaders, Soyinka has often spoken out against poor governance, notably under former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari. Yet, two years into Tinubu’s tenure, he has withheld public judgment.

Soyinka also confirmed that his U.S. visa had been revoked but said he would not reapply despite being invited to do so. “They asked me to bring my passport for cancellation. I told them they were jokers. If they realise their mistake, they can bring the visa to my house,” he quipped.
The U.S. Consulate in Lagos reiterated that visa issuance and revocation remain a discretionary privilege. “Visas are a privilege, not a right,” it stated.
