Police operatives and local vigilantes in Kebbi State have killed a suspected member of the Lakurawa bandit gang during a gun battle in Yeldu District, Arewa Local Government Area.

Police spokesman, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the confrontation occurred on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, after the gang invaded Kwagware village, rustled cattle, and robbed residents of their phones.

He explained that officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Yeldu, swiftly pursued the bandits and engaged them in a shootout, killing one while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds.

A stolen Tecno phone and an unregistered motorcycle belonging to the bandits were recovered at the scene. Residents reportedly set the motorcycle ablaze in celebration.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, has ordered the deployment of more tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes to the area to maintain calm and track down the fleeing criminals.

Sani praised the operatives’ bravery and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal gangs in the state.

He assured that joint operations between the police, military, and local vigilantes would continue until lasting peace is restored in Kebbi’s rural communities.Headline news
