President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, November 7, 2025, met with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The Sultan, who also leads the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), was accompanied by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas.

According to presidential aide Dada Olusegun, the closed-door meeting was part of Tinubu’s ongoing consultations with religious and traditional leaders.
Earlier in the week, the president also met with the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, amid growing global attention following U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that Christians face persecution in Nigeria.

Trump recently redesignated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” warning of sanctions and threats to withdraw U.S. aid.

In response, the Nigerian government dismissed the allegations, maintaining that Christians and Muslims continue to coexist peacefully across the country.
