A coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) members and stakeholders in Oyo State has called for immediate intervention to resolve the internal crisis affecting the party ahead of future elections.
The group, known as the Coalition for Oyo APC Renewal (COAR), expressed concern over growing tension within the party, saying disagreements surrounding recent primary elections have created anger, distrust, and division among members.
In an open letter addressed to former Senate Leader and APC chieftain, Senator Teslim Folarin, the group urged him to pay attention to the condition of the party’s structures in the state and work toward restoring unity.
COAR alleged that the process of announcing results from the party’s primary elections lacked transparency, leaving several aspirants and members dissatisfied and feeling excluded from the political process.
The group warned that ignoring the grievances of party members could have serious consequences, including reduced mobilisation, voter apathy, internal opposition, defections, and declining support for APC candidates.
According to the coalition, party leaders cannot expect full commitment from members whose concerns have not been addressed, stressing that a divided party structure could affect the success of future campaigns.
COAR appealed to Senator Folarin to use his influence and relationship with President Bola Tinubu to encourage urgent intervention in the affairs of Oyo APC.
The group recommended measures such as transparent handling of primary election disputes, reconciliation with aggrieved members, and a more inclusive approach to selecting candidates.
It also warned that unresolved internal conflicts could affect the party’s performance during the 2027 elections, stating that political unity and trust among members are essential for electoral success.
COAR maintained that its concerns were not a threat but a warning based on the current situation within the party, urging APC leadership to address the issues before campaign activities begin.
