Police train officers to handle explosives, nuclear threats

The Nigeria Police Force has trained 325 officers in handling explosives and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats to boost its counterterrorism capacity.

The four-week training, held at the Police Mobile Force Training College in Nassarawa-Eggon, Nasarawa State, drew participants from police commands across all 36 states.

CP Hauwa Ibrahim, head of the EOD and CBRN unit, said the programme was part of IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s efforts to strengthen national security and enhance operational efficiency. She noted that the officers were trained in detection, decontamination, and safe response procedures to prevent terror attacks.

Ibrahim praised the trainees’ discipline and urged them to support anti-bomb squads in their commands. She also appealed to citizens to report suspicious explosive devices to the police.

DCP Sunday Peter, Commandant of the college, commended the IGP’s commitment to regular capacity building. PC Ahmed Ruth of the Kwara Command emerged as the best participant in the 2025 EOD and CBRN Basic Course.Headline news
