A photo of retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, has surfaced online amid controversy over an Abuja land dispute involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Wike had accused Gambo of land grabbing and illegal construction, sparking public curiosity about the ex-naval chief.
Born on April 22, 1966, in Kano State, Gambo joined the Navy in 1984, specializing in Underwater Warfare and Intelligence. He served as Chief of Naval Staff from January 2021 to June 2023, during which he helped curb piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
A decorated officer and scholar, Gambo holds a PhD and Master’s degree in Transport Management from Ladoke Akintola University. He is also a fellow of several professional bodies and has received honors including the ECOMOG Peacekeeping and Admiralty Medals.
