Obidient Movement’s director of mobilisation resigns, sends strong message to Peter Obi

The Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement, Morris Monye, has resigned from his position, citing poor coordination and disappointing performance in the recent Anambra governorship election.

In a statement on X, Monye said he spent about ₦40 million of his own money on mobilization, travel, and media efforts without reimbursement or official support. He criticized the lack of structure and communication within the movement, adding that Peter Obi had never inquired about the directorate’s activities.

Monye revealed he and his businesses faced harassment from government supporters, saying the role had taken a toll on his family. He listed several initiatives he led, including online registration for Obidients, reviving support groups, setting up regional offices, and launching the Obidient NextGen university network.

He also initiated a plan to provide polling unit agents with body cameras for election transparency and urged his successor to complete it.

Monye said he had notified Obi, National Coordinator Yunusa Tanko, and his state coordinator of his resignation. He plans to focus on his businesses and pursue further studies at Oxford or Cambridge University, while continuing to advocate for good governance.

Advising on the movement’s future, he urged Obi to hire professional consultants, properly fund the directorates, and establish accountability structures.

“You can’t run a campaign on goodwill alone. This is not 2023,” he warned.

The Obidient Movement, which rose around Obi’s 2023 presidential bid, once energized Nigeria’s youth and diaspora supporters but has recently struggled, reflected in the Labour Party’s 1.5% vote share in the 2025 Anambra election.Headline news
