Senate President Godswill Akpabio says restoring peace in Plateau State and across Nigeria is the responsibility of the government and citizens, not foreign powers.

Speaking at the Jos Polo Field during a reception for new APC defectors, Akpabio urged residents to support efforts to end violence and reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to stabilising the state.
He stressed that lasting peace must come from within: “It is not outsiders who will bring peace. We must live in peace with one another for progress to come.” He added that the federal government is deeply concerned about ongoing killings and pledged that the concerns of Plateau people will be addressed.
Akpabio noted that the crisis has roots dating back to 2010 and recalled the heavy casualties recorded over the years. Despite current challenges—including killings and displacement—he assured that the government is intensifying efforts to restore stability nationwide.

He also urged the people of Plateau to support President Tinubu and the APC for continued development.
His remarks follow recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to deploy American forces to Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide—claims the federal government has rejected.
