The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 2,316,232 new voters have registered nationwide in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The figures, released on Sunday, cover online and physical registrations completed in Week 12 of the CVR, which began on August 18, 2025, and will run until August 2026.

Osun leads the country with 185,089 new registrants, followed by Imo (143,386) and Kano (132,290). Other states with high turnout include Sokoto (123,320), Lagos (109,693), the Federal Capital Territory (106,855), and Borno (106,376). Additional significant numbers were recorded in Kogi, Jigawa, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna.
Niger, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Rivers, Benue, Bayelsa, and Bauchi contributed moderate figures, while Ekiti, Gombe, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Edo, and Plateau followed closely. States with the lowest new registrations include Taraba (17,803), Enugu (16,304), Ondo (16,012), Cross River (14,559), and Abia (12,297).

INEC noted that registration is currently suspended in Anambra until after the state’s November 8, 2025 governorship election, in line with the Electoral Act.
The commission said the South West, particularly Osun and Lagos, has shown strong participation, while northern states are improving due to increased mobilisation by local and religious leaders. INEC chairman Professor Joash Amupitan assured Nigerians of credible elections and pledged to review irregularities from the 2023 polls.
