Police Confirms Abduction of 25 Schoolgirls in Kebbi by Bandits

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that at least 25 students were kidnapped from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, early Monday morning.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, said the attack was carried out by heavily armed bandits, resulting in the death of one staff member and injuries to another.

“The assailants struck around 4:00 a.m., engaging police officers stationed at the school in a gunfight. Despite the officers’ efforts, the attackers scaled the school fence and forcibly removed the students from their hostel,” Kotarkoshi explained.

The deceased has been identified as Hassan Makuku, while Ali Shehu sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand.

In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police Bello Muhammad Sani has deployed additional tactical police units, military personnel, and local vigilante groups to the area. A coordinated search and rescue operation is ongoing in the surrounding forests to recover the abducted students and apprehend the bandits.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring the public that the police are committed to safeguarding lives and property throughout Kebbi State.
