Atiku Condemns Kebbi School Abductions, Zamfara Killings, Warns Nigeria Cannot Continue on Current Path

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the recent surge of violence in northern Nigeria, highlighting the country’s worsening security situation.

In a statement on Monday, Atiku expressed devastation over the attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, where armed assailants killed the Vice-Principal and abducted several students. He described the incident as a painful reminder of the growing vulnerability of schoolchildren across the region.

Atiku also denounced the killing of APC chieftain Umar Moriki and mass abductions in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where bandits reportedly kidnapped dozens of residents, including women and children.

Calling the attacks “barbaric,” the former Vice President said they reflect a country losing control over its security environment. He warned that similar bloodshed has occurred in Plateau, Benue, and other states, with rural communities suffering killings, displacement, and destruction. Atiku also cited fresh attacks in Shanono LGA, Kano State, where residents fled their homes in fear.

He urged the Tinubu-led government to urgently reassess and strengthen Nigeria’s security apparatus, arguing that the current approach has failed. “Nigeria cannot continue on this path,” Atiku stressed. “The government must deploy adequate personnel to vulnerable communities and intensify intelligence-led operations. Citizens deserve protection, dignity, and peace — nothing less.”
