ZAMFARA TOPS AS NIGERIA RECORDS 98 HOMICIDE, TERROR, BANDITRY, KIDNAP, ROBBERY CASES IN SEVEN DAYS

A new security situation report has revealed that at least 98 serious crime incidents were recorded across 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) within a one-week period between June 7 and June 13, 2026, highlighting ongoing security challenges in Nigeria.

The report shows that the incidents included 37 homicide cases, 24 kidnappings, 27 banditry attacks, eight armed robbery cases, and two terrorism-related incidents recorded nationwide during the period under review.

Zamfara State recorded the highest level of violence, with seven homicide cases, six kidnappings, and seven banditry attacks, making it the most affected state during the week.

Niger State also experienced significant insecurity, reporting four homicide cases, seven banditry attacks, three kidnappings, one armed robbery incident, and one terrorism-related case.

Kogi State recorded three homicide cases, five banditry attacks, one kidnapping, and one armed robbery incident, while Sokoto State reported three homicide cases, one kidnapping, and three banditry attacks.

In Gombe State, authorities documented three homicide cases and one armed robbery incident. Ogun State recorded four homicide cases, two kidnappings, one armed robbery case, and one banditry attack, while Oyo State reported two homicide cases, one kidnapping, and one armed robbery incident.

The Federal Capital Territory recorded one homicide and two kidnapping cases, reflecting continued security concerns within the nation’s capital.

Other states affected by violent crimes during the period include Benue, Ekiti, Rivers, Kaduna, Katsina, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Cross River, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Osun, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom, and Bauchi, all of which reported varying levels of criminal activity.

The report further noted that the two terrorism-related incidents recorded nationwide occurred in Niger and Zamfara States.

Despite the disturbing figures, the report stated that the Nigeria Police Force continued with internal reforms and operational adjustments aimed at improving national security responses.

It added that collaboration between security agencies, including the military and local vigilante groups, helped support ongoing operations across affected regions as authorities worked to contain rising criminal activities.
