I CAME BACK TO NIGERIA TO REMOVE THE SHAME, NOT TO ENRICH MYSELF — NAFDAC DG

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye, has said she returned to Nigeria from the United States to contribute to the country’s development rather than pursue personal wealth.

Adeyeye made the remark while speaking about her decision to return to Nigeria and take up the leadership of the regulatory agency.

She said her motivation was driven by a desire to help address challenges within Nigeria’s healthcare and regulatory system and restore confidence in the country’s ability to regulate medicines and other products effectively.

The NAFDAC boss stressed that her return was not motivated by financial gain, but by a commitment to make a meaningful contribution to Nigeria.

She has continued to emphasise the importance of strengthening the agency’s regulatory capacity, improving standards and protecting Nigerians from unsafe and substandard products.

Adeyeye also highlighted the need for stronger systems and greater accountability within the country’s health sector, saying effective regulation is essential to protecting public health.

Her comments come amid ongoing efforts by NAFDAC to improve its operations and strengthen the regulation of medicines, food, medical devices and other products consumed by Nigerians.
