Policeman Killed as FCT Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Bwari Community

A police officer has died after operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command successfully stopped an attempted kidnapping in Guto Village, a border community in Bwari Area Council.

According to the command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, about 30 armed men stormed the community around 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, and tried to break into a residence to abduct the occupants.

Police teams from the Bwari Division Surveillance Unit and the IGP Special Intervention Squad were immediately deployed after a distress call was received. The attackers opened fire as soon as they sighted the operatives, sparking a fierce gun battle.

Two of the attackers were killed, while the rest fled into nearby bushes and mountainous areas.

Adeh confirmed that one police officer sustained a gunshot wound during the shootout and was rushed to Bwari General Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

She described the officer as a courageous hero who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, adding that the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, has commended the bravery and swift response of the operatives.

The CP extended condolences to the fallen officer’s family and assured residents that operations would be intensified to flush out criminal groups across the FCT. He also urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities using the command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.

Bwari Area Council remains one of the FCT’s most security-challenged locations, with several communities experiencing frequent attacks. The attempted kidnap in Guto adds to a growing list of incidents highlighting the pressure on outskirts communities around the capital.
