The Obafemi Awolowo family has announced the passing of Olusegun Awolowo Jr., a distinguished lawyer and grandson of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

In a heartfelt statement, the family described him as “a loving husband, father, and grandfather,” praising his lifelong dedication to his family, his career, and the nation he served with honour.
“He was an extraordinary pillar — calm, wise, deeply loving, and the unwavering foundation of our family,” the statement said.

They also highlighted his commitment to Nigeria, noting that he served with integrity, vision, and passion throughout his public service career.
Awolowo, who led the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) from 2013 to 2021, played a major role in advancing Nigeria’s export and trade initiatives. Born on September 27, 1963, he was widely respected for his contributions to national development.

The family expressed profound appreciation for his impactful life, saying, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and strong moral values.
