The Lagos State Government has announced that several major routes in Ikeja will be temporarily closed on Saturday, November 22, 2025, to accommodate the Capital City Race, scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
The advisory, issued by Bolanle Ogunlola, Director of Public Affairs, was shared via the official X account of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

The 10km race, organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in collaboration with the Capital City Race organizers, will see traffic diversions along the designated route to ensure the safety of participants.
According to the announcement, the race will begin at Ikeja Shopping Mall, then proceed through Billings Way, Kudirat Abiola Way, Opebi Link Bridge, Adeniyi Jones, Oba Akran near LASUTH, and conclude at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church on Oba Akinjobi Way.

> “In line with this development, some roads, junctions, and intersections along the race routes will be partially closed to traffic and opened intermittently as the race progresses,” the statement noted.
The government clarified that the temporary closures would be implemented in phases to reduce disruption for residents and commuters in the Ikeja area. While the roads will not be fully blocked for the entire period, movement will be restricted at intervals as runners advance. This phased approach is aimed at maintaining traffic flow on adjacent streets while ensuring participant safety.

A joint team of traffic personnel from the Nigerian Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to guide motorists, enforce diversions, and respond to incidents.
Commuters are advised to plan ahead, use alternative routes, and follow instructions from traffic officials. Motorists are also urged to remain patient, as the temporary closures are part of a coordinated effort to support a safe and smooth Capital City Race.
