The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora in Niger State has published the names of 265 students and teachers from St. Mary’s School, Papiri community in Agwara LGA, who remain in the hands of kidnappers.

On November 21, armed assailants stormed the school, abducting a total of 315 individuals — including 303 students and 12 teachers.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State reported on Sunday that fifty of the abducted students have managed to escape. According to the association, the pupils regained their freedom between Friday and Saturday and quietly reunited with their families.

Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, chairman of CAN in Niger State and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, explained that the students who escaped were not able to return to school immediately. They were traced after officials reached out to and visited their parents.

In a fresh update on Monday, the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora disclosed the identities of those still held hostage.
According to the diocese, 265 people remain in captivity, including 239 nursery and primary school pupils, 14 secondary students, and 12 staff members.
