Wife allegedly stabs husband to death in Katsina five days after wedding

The family of a newly wedded couple in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has been thrown into mourning after the groom, identified as Dan Gaske Mai Masara, was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife less than a week after their wedding.

It was gathered that the couple tied the knot on Thursday, November 18, 2025, but the marital bliss was cut short on Sunday afternoon when the incident occurred.

According to information gathered from their neighbours, the wife allegedly attacked the new groom with a knife while he was asleep, inflicting a fatal wound to his neck.

There is no official statement from the police authorities yet, and the motive behind the killing is not yet known at the time of writing.

Domestic violence remained a widespread problem in Nigeria in 2025, affecting women, men, and children across rural and urban areas.

Reports have shown a rise in cases of intimate partner violence, sexual abuse, and child maltreatment, fueled by economic hardship, cultural norms, and low prosecution rates. Although the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP) gained wider adoption across states, enforcement was inconsistent, with many victims still facing stigma, fear of retaliation, and limited access to shelters or legal support.

Civil society groups and government agencies intensified awareness campaigns and pushed for stronger protection systems, but the overall burden of domestic violence remained high.
