BREAKING: EFCC summons ex-minister of justice Abubakar Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Malami confirmed the invitation in a post on his Facebook page on Friday, stating that he had received a formal request from the anti-graft agency. He noted that he would willingly honour the summons.

“I would like to inform my family and friends that I have been invited by the EFCC to provide clarification on certain issues. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I will honour this invitation without hesitation,” he wrote.

He restated his commitment to honesty, integrity, and accountability—values he said guided his years in public service.

“I believe strongly in honesty, integrity, and accountability in governance. These are principles I have supported and upheld throughout my public service career,” he added.

Malami said he would keep Nigerians updated on any developments that may follow the invitation.

As of the time of this report, the EFCC had not revealed the specific reasons for summoning him.

Malami served as attorney-general for eight years under the Buhari administration, a period marked by major legal battles, asset recovery efforts, anti-corruption campaigns, and several controversial policy decisions that drew both criticism and commendation.

He played significant roles in high-profile financial crime cases, international arbitration matters, and reforms linked to governance. In his final years in office, he also came under increased public scrutiny over asset declarations, contract procedures, and the handling of recovered funds.
