Gunmen reportedly attacked an advance team of Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti along the Umuowa–Ihite axis early Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

SaharaReporters gathered that the three-member team was en route to Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport, Owerri, when the assailants opened fire shortly before reaching the airport junction.
Fortunately, no one was injured, and the team escaped unharmed.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the Abia State Government clarified that Governor Otti’s main convoy was not involved and was far from the scene during the attack.

“The three-member team was travelling to Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport, Owerri, when the incident occurred shortly before the airport junction,” the statement read. “Governor Otti’s convoy was not attacked, no one was injured, and no lives were lost. We urge the public to disregard any rumours suggesting otherwise.”

The statement added that security agencies have been informed, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
