NDLEA Edo Command Seizes 763kg of Skunk Cannabis, Arrests Two Suspects
The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Wednesday the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers and the seizure of 763 kilograms of skunk cannabis in separate operations across the state.
State Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju said the arrests and seizures were part of the agency’s pre-Yuletide anti-drug operations, aimed at curbing the circulation of illicit substances during the festive season.

He added that two vehicles were impounded during the operations, describing the seizures as major efforts to protect communities from drug-related crimes.
“The NDLEA, Edo State Command, has successfully intercepted large consignments of skunk cannabis in two separate operations, resulting in over 763 kilogrammes seized and two suspected traffickers arrested,” Ofoyeju said.

“These efforts reflect our commitment to preventing the production, trafficking, and distribution of illegal drugs, particularly as the festive season approaches. We remain steadfast in safeguarding the safety and well-being of Edo residents,” he added.
According to Ofoyeju, the first operation took place on December 2, 2025, when officers intercepted two Honda Accord vehicles at Agho Forest in Akoko Edo LGA. The vehicles were transporting compressed dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis.

The first vehicle, ABC-678KK, contained 341 compressed packages weighing 217.5 kg, with the 56-year-old driver, Dada Babawibi, arrested on the spot.

The second vehicle, GGE-772FB, carried 361 compressed packages weighing 230 kg. The driver fled and is currently being tracked by the NDLEA.
The total cannabis seized from both vehicles amounted to 447.5 kilograms.
In a second raid on December 4, 2025, operatives acting on intelligence arrested Stanley Obasuwa, 36, at a warehouse in Isiefve community, Uhunwonde LGA. The raid yielded eight bags of cannabis sativa seeds weighing 315.8 kg, stored in a makeshift structure on the outskirts of the community.

Ofoyeju said investigations are ongoing as the agency works to track other suspects and dismantle drug networks operating in Edo State. He urged members of the public to support NDLEA by providing credible information that could aid in combating drug trafficking.

This follows a previous arrest by the Edo NDLEA command on November 13, 2025, when two individuals transporting cannabis along the Benin–Akure Road were apprehended during a routine patrol.
