EFCC TRACES 41 PROPERTIES WORTH N212BN TO EX-AGF MALAMI (FULL LIST)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered 41 assets allegedly linked to Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

A report by TheCable revealed that the assets include hotels, residential houses, parcels of land, schools, and a printing press located across Kebbi State, Kano State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Findings showed that the properties in Kebbi State are valued at about ₦162.19 billion, those in Kano State at ₦16.01 billion, while assets traced to Abuja are estimated at ₦34.69 billion. Most of the properties were reportedly acquired during Malami’s eight-year tenure in office.

In addition, the Federal Government has instituted a 16-count charge against Malami and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, over alleged money laundering offences. The charges are said to be in violation of Sections 15, 18, and 21 of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.

According to the EFCC, the traced assets span educational institutions, commercial establishments, energy facilities, hotels, and private residences.

Summary of Properties Linked to Malami

Kebbi State (₦162.19bn):
The assets include Rayhaan University (permanent, temporary, and third sites), staff quarters, a vice-chancellor’s residence, Rayhaan Model Academy, primary and secondary schools, agro-allied factories, mills, a printing press, radio station, oil and gas structures, hotels, shopping facilities, mosques, gardens, and several residential buildings tied to Malami and his family members.

Kano State (₦16.01bn):
Properties include Zeennoor Hotel and Mosque, Rayhaan Hotel and Gym, an old hotel structure, and a residential building reportedly belonging to Malami’s wife.

Abuja (₦34.69bn):
The FCT assets consist of luxury duplexes in Maitama, Meethaq Hotels in Jabi and Maitama, Harmonia Hotel in Garki, and multiple housing units in Efab Estate.

Altogether, the combined estimated value of the properties stands at ₦212.89 billion.

Malami served as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice between 2015 and 2023 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The case has once again sparked public debate over whether the EFCC will successfully secure a conviction or if the matter will follow the pattern of past high-profile corruption trials.
