KANO STARTS PROSECUTION OF SUSPECTED KILLER OF HOUSEWIFE, SIX CHILDREN.

The trial of individuals accused of murdering a woman and her six children at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano State is set to begin soon.

The state government announced it would take over the prosecution following public outrage over the shocking killings.

The suspects are alleged to have forced their way into the home of Haruna Bashir, killing his wife, Fatima Abubakar, along with her six children.

Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case: Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu (also known as Chebe), 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz (also known as Wawo), 21.

Speaking at a Monday press briefing, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Maude, SAN, explained that the government’s intervention followed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive to ensure justice and accountability for the victims.

Maude condemned the killings, describing the crime, which occurred last week in Dorayi Chiranchi, Kumbotso Local Government Area, as a severe violation of the law.

“This inhuman and brutal act is a serious affront to humanity and the rule of law. Following the directive of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, my office will take over the prosecution to guarantee that justice is served and seen to be served,” he said.

Preliminary reports indicate the attack occurred late on Saturday morning. Attempts by the woman to raise an alarm and alert relatives were reportedly unsuccessful, as the suspects carried out the killings before help could arrive.

Some of the children had returned from school shortly before the incident, while one of the victims was not the woman’s biological child.

The case was first reported at the Dorayi Divisional Police Station before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, which led to the suspects’ arrests.

The Attorney General praised the Kano State Police Command for their quick and professional response. He assured residents of the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to due process throughout the prosecution, emphasizing that the Ministry of Justice would diligently handle the case.

Maude also urged the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, follow the law, and continue providing credible information to assist security agencies.

He confirmed that the government would keep the public updated as the trial progresses, warning that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.
