SHETTIMA PREACHES PEACE, TOLERANCE, PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE ON VISIT TO GBONG GWOM IN JOS.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that Nigeria has the potential to become one of the world’s greatest nations if its citizens learn to tolerate one another and live in peace.

Shettima made the remarks yesterday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, while paying a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, HRH Jacob Gyang Buba, at his palace.

“We are all connected in one way or another. We must continue to live together, and what unites us outweighs what divides us,” he said.

The vice president, who was in the state for the grand reception of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other prominent politicians into the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized the important role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and social cohesion.

“They are not only custodians of our cultural heritage but also key figures in maintaining societal harmony by preaching peace among their subjects,” Shettima stated.

He commended the cordial relationship between APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and Governor Mutfwang, noting that their political alignment signals positive prospects for Plateau State.

“The national chairman, an indigene of the state, pledged his full support to the governor at the reception. Their coming together will enhance democracy and deliver more benefits to the people of Plateau,” he added.

Shettima expressed confidence that the realignment would strengthen Plateau State’s image, promote peace, and contribute to national stability. “The national chairman opposed the governor in the last election, yet today they have agreed to collaborate. There can be no development without peace. With their unity, the state will enjoy stability and progress,” he said.

He also thanked the government and people of Plateau State for their warm reception.

Earlier, Governor Mutfwang praised the productive working relationship between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, noting that it will continue to benefit the entire country.

In his remarks, the Gbong Gwom Jos appealed for increased security measures to address challenges in Plateau State and across Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to respect one another and live peacefully, emphasizing that both Islam and Christianity condemn insurgency and violence.

“On behalf of the traditional council, I commend our security agencies for maintaining peace, but we need stronger efforts and genuine reconciliation nationwide. We all believe in God Almighty—why should we harm one another?” he asked.

The royal father also welcomed the political realignment between the vice president, the APC national chairman, and the governor, describing it as a positive development for both Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.
