TURKEY OFFERS SUPPORT FOR NIGERIA’S COUNTERTERRORISM WAR AFTER KWARA MASSACRE.

Turkey has expressed condolences to the Nigerian government following the deadly terrorist attack in Woro and Nuku communities of Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State, which claimed the lives of dozens of residents on Tuesday.

Rauf Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, told TheCable that at least 75 people were killed during the assault. The victims, predominantly Muslims, were reportedly targeted for rejecting an extremist interpretation of Islamic teachings imposed by the attackers.

In response to the attack, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama LGA on Wednesday, describing the assailants as “heartless for choosing soft targets in their doomed campaign of terror.”

In a statement released on Thursday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country was “deeply saddened by the loss of lives caused by the terrorist attack” and condemned the act in strong terms.

The statement added: “We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of Nigeria. Türkiye will continue to support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.”

President Tinubu recently concluded a state visit to Turkey, during which Nigeria and Türkiye signed nine bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries. One of the agreements specifically focused on defence collaboration, underscoring the countries’ commitment to joint efforts against security threats.
