The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians about a fraudulent website falsely claiming that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently underway.

The commission raised the alarm after the website began circulating online with claims that voter registration would run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
According to INEC, the platform, which was promoted through a shortened link, is not connected to the commission and the information published on it is false.
INEC specifically cautioned members of the public against visiting the website or submitting any personal information through it. The commission said doing so could expose individuals to the risk of having their sensitive data collected, misused or potentially exploited for fraudulent purposes.

The electoral body further clarified that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ended on July 26, 2026. It therefore described claims that a fresh nationwide online registration exercise is currently ongoing as false.
The warning comes as fraudulent websites and social media posts continue to imitate official electoral activities in an attempt to obtain personal information from unsuspecting Nigerians.

INEC urged citizens to exercise caution and verify information concerning voter registration, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and other electoral activities only through the commission’s official communication channels.
The commission’s official voter portal currently confirms that the CVR exercise has ended and advises registered voters to use the platform for services that remain available, including checking PVC status and collection information.
For enquiries or to verify information, members of the public can contact the INEC Citizens Contact Centre through 0700-2255-4632, the shortcode 4632, 0908 444 4333, or 0905 085 8629. INEC can also be reached via iccc@inec.gov.ng.
INEC has advised Nigerians to disregard any website or message claiming that a new nationwide voter registration exercise is underway unless the information is confirmed through its official channels.
